Love a Saturday night at home

It snowed today after having what could clearly be described as a few spring weekends. It was a shock as I left to teach a Saturday class this morning and found 5 inches of snow on my windshield. I did some slip sliding along the roadway to the correctional facility where I met my 8am class. They were in good spirits-- most of them realizing that they were lucky to have the chance to take a college class right there where they "live" for free since the tuition is covered by a grant. It is a win-win-win situation and a very unique experience for me as an instructor.

So tonight we are huddled inside with pizza, a movie for the kids, me resting my voice and the dogs being lazy. After the boys are asleep we have a movie just for us. It is a good night to cuddle up and stay inside.

These extra teaching jobs and speaking gigs will help pay for our "wedding" in the spring, but each one teaches me something new. Today I learned that self-professed reformed childhood bullies are totally sponges for the positive affirmation assignments and quotations that I infuse into every class I teach. Gotta love the little surprises from the work day. Even more than that, I love coming home to an awesome family at night and relating the fun stories and adventures from the day, then melting into the night and the fun with them, like I haven't missed a beat.

  1. You have the sweetest family. And ya, I dig a night in. It's how I spent 95 percent of mine now. Is that too much??

  2. You are teaching a class at a correctional facility!?!? That's so cool! That is a population that could certainly benefit from your skills and who are often neglected when it comes to education opportunities!
